Lollapalooza 2026: The Verdict

Lollapalooza is one of the biggest, most genre-spanning festivals on the planet — four days, 170+ acts across eight stages, set in Grant Park with the Chicago skyline on one side and Lake Michigan on the other. Gates open at 11am and headliners take the stage around 8:30–9pm: in 2026 that's Lorde and John Summit on Thursday, Charli XCX and The Smashing Pumpkins on Friday, Olivia Dean and JENNIE on Saturday, and Tate McRae and The xx closing it out on Sunday.

Here's the thing most first-timers miss: Lolla is a destination festival. Almost everyone travels in, which means the weekend lives or dies on the trip around it — where you sleep, how you get in and out, and how you pace four hot days on your feet. The people who love Lolla plan the logistics as carefully as the lineup. Do that, and it's one of the best long weekends in American music.

Best For

  • Travelers who want a genre-spanning lineup and a real city weekend, not just a field
  • Pop, hip-hop, and electronic fans — the 2026 bill leans modern
  • Groups happy to split across stages and regroup at a meeting point
  • First-timers willing to plan transit and pacing in advance

Less ideal for

  • Anyone after a small, low-key festival — this is one of the largest there is
  • Heat-sensitive folks who can't pace for hot, exposed afternoons
  • Purists chasing the alt-rock Lolla of the 1990s
  • Last-minute planners — downtown hotels and four-day passes go early
