Is Tahoe Live Worth the Trip?

Tahoe Live is a ski trip with a rave stapled to the end of each day. You ride Palisades in the morning, walk down to a single stage in the parking lot by the Aerial Tram at 3pm, and the music stops at 10pm, early enough that you can still make first chair. It started in 2022 at Boreal, moved to Palisades in 2023, and sold out all three days in 2025.

The 2026 bill is the biggest it has had. GRiZ, Knock2 and Chris Lake lead, with Madeon, Walker & Royce, Noizu and T-Pain's Teddy Pain DJ set underneath. There is one stage and no clashes, so you see every set you came for, and the whole crowd sees the same show.

Insider tip: Palisades is scheduled to open for the season on November 25. Early-season terrain depends entirely on snow, so treat the skiing as a bonus you confirm the week before, not a promise you plan around.

Best For

Skiers and riders who want a reason to go up in mid-December. Bass and house fans who'd rather see every headliner than run between stages. Groups from the Bay Area, Sacramento and Reno who can drive up after work on Thursday.

Less ideal for

Anyone under 18, since it's 18+ with no exceptions. Anyone who hates the cold, because this is an outdoor show at 6,200 feet in December. And anyone hoping to camp or sleep in a car: camping isn't allowed and vehicles left overnight are towed.

Where to Stay

Everything here is about how far you are from the Aerial Tram. The festival is in the lot beside it, and Olympic Valley is a dead-end valley off Highway 89, so once you're parked for the night you want to stay parked.

  • The Village at Palisades Tahoe (walk to the gates). The official partner, about five minutes on foot from the entrance. Book direct with code TAHOELIVE for 15% off. Nearly every unit has a private balcony, a full kitchen and a fireplace, guests get underground parking and access to eight outdoor hot tubs. It often sells out, so this is the one to book first.
  • Everline Resort & Spa (Olympic Valley, still close). The former Resort at Squaw Creek, now part of the Hyatt family, sits at the south end of the valley. It's a short drive or shuttle to the base area and a better pick if you want a full-service hotel with a spa.
  • Tahoe City (on the lake). A short drive south on Highway 89, with more restaurants, more rental cabins and lake views. You'll drive or ride in each afternoon, so leave margin for snow.
  • Truckee (most choice). North on 89, with the biggest spread of hotels, vacation rentals and late dinners, plus easy I-80 access for the drive home. It's also the town where groups split a big rental to keep the weekend affordable.
  • Reno (cheapest beds). About 45 miles away, with casino hotel rates that undercut the mountain. Only worth it if someone's comfortable driving Highway 89 and I-80 at night in winter conditions.

All ticket sales are final and many mountain rentals have strict cancellation terms, so line up the pass and the room together. If you're booking in Truckee or Tahoe City, pick a place with plowed parking.

Getting There

Flying in: Reno-Tahoe International (RNO) is the closest airport, about 45 miles from Palisades. Sacramento (SMF) is about 120 miles away and often has more flight options, but it puts the I-80 climb over Donner Summit between you and the valley.

Driving in December: chain controls on I-80 and Highway 89 are common this time of year. Carry chains or bring a vehicle with all-wheel drive and snow tires, and check road conditions before you leave. The Thursday-evening and Sunday-afternoon pushes over the summit are the slowest.

Parking: event parking at Palisades is free all three days with no reservation needed, but overnight parking isn't allowed and cars left overnight are towed. Parking on neighboring streets isn't allowed either. Rideshare drop-off and pickup zones are marked near the entrance.

Getting around the valley: free daytime transit (TART, TART Connect and the Mountaineer) serves skiers. Check service hours before relying on it after the 10pm finish. Local cab companies cover the rest.

Insider tip: cell service can be spotty in a crowd at the base, so screenshot your Paylogic ticket before you walk over, and aim to arrive before the 5pm to 7pm rush at the gates.

Where to Eat

The Village is where you eat before doors and after the last set, and it's walkable from the grounds. Palisades lists an 11am to 3pm KT Bass Bar pre-party at the base, which lines up with the lifts winding down and the gates opening. Inside, the festival runs local food vendors, bars and beer gardens, and VIP adds its own bars and food.

For a real sit-down dinner on a night off, Tahoe City and Truckee both have more range than the valley. Insider tip: eat something proper before 3pm. Skiing burns more than you think, and the food lines get long once the headliners are close.

GA or VIP?

Both passes cover all three nights. GA ($279 plus fees) gets you onto the grounds, the food vendors, the bars and the beer gardens, and with a single stage you're not missing any sets. VIP ($429 plus fees) adds expedited entry, private restrooms, VIP bars and food, a private viewing area near the stage and a heated lounge.

That last one is the real argument. On a December night at 6,200 feet, a warm place to stand between sets is worth more than it sounds. Insider tip: GA tickets can be upgraded to VIP on Paylogic with what you paid credited toward the new price, so you can buy GA now and decide later.

Dressing for a Rave in the Snow

Plan for an outdoor show in a mountain parking lot after dark. Layer like you're skiing: a base layer, a warm mid-layer and a waterproof shell, plus waterproof boots with real tread, gloves you can work a phone in and a hat. The show is rain or shine.

Bags are size-limited and the prohibited list includes chairs, blankets, tents, coolers, glass and outside food and drink. Empty reusable bottles and clear hydration packs are allowed, and there are free refill stations. Totems are allowed up to ten feet if they're lightweight foam or PVC.

Ticket Rules Worth Knowing

Paylogic is the only official seller and the only official resale platform. Every ticket has to be assigned to a named attendee with their own email address, using the Manage Order link in your confirmation email, so sort out your group's names early. Payment plans are available at checkout. All sales are final, downgrades aren't allowed, and there's no blanket refund policy.

The event is 18+ with no exceptions, so everyone in the group needs ID.

Make It a Ski Weekend

The best version of this trip is three short days: ski or ride in the morning, eat at the Village, walk down for doors, and be in bed before midnight. Palisades has ski history to match, since this is where the 1960 Winter Olympics were held.

Our move: drive up Thursday night to beat Friday's I-80 traffic, stay at the Village with the TAHOELIVE code so the car never moves, ski until early afternoon each day, and leave Sunday night or Monday morning once the plows have been through.
